WiFi Desk Occupancy Sensor — Under-Desk PIR for Smart Office Monitoring
The MI2PIRW is a WiFi-connected desk occupancy sensor that mounts on the underside of a desk. Its built-in downward-facing PIR sensor detects whether the desk is occupied or vacant and reports status in real time to a dashboard or building management system — enabling hot-desking, utilisation analytics, and HVAC optimisation.
How It Works
Mounted under the desk surface, the MI2PIRW's PIR sensor points downward with a 1-metre detection range. When a person sits at the desk, occupancy is detected and the status is transmitted over WiFi. When the desk is vacated, the sensor reports vacant after the configured timeout. No cameras. No badges. No check-in apps.
Use Cases
- Hot-desking management — show real-time desk availability on a floor map; employees find free desks without walking the floor
- Space utilisation analytics — track which desks are used, when, and for how long; right-size your office footprint
- HVAC optimisation — zone-level occupancy data drives smarter heating and cooling decisions
- Cleaning scheduling — trigger cleaning only for desks that have been used, not on a fixed rota
